Fuel for Your Fire

Rowing Inspiration

If you are here you are already passionate about rowing and travelling. We would like to add more fuel for your fire.

We love our Independent Rowing Experiences. We also love running our group and guided trips. Every year we offer rowing trips to destinations in Europe, Canada and usually an exotic destination. We select beautiful locations where we think you would want to travel to and most importantly, where there is wonderful rowing. The trips are typically six to 10 days. We might row on rivers lakes or the sea. We are so happy to share with you the relationships which we have built over the years with international rowers, rowing clubs and organizations. Add in genuine cultural experiences, remarkable lodgings, amazing local food and wine, and ten years of experience. Typically each year one trip is designated Women’s Only, a different destination each time.

More independent travel and rowing inspiration

Libraries and bookstores tempt with guidebooks and armchair travel inspiration. The internet overflows with information presented in a multitude of ways. No one has the time to read it all. Here are four favourite sources for your inspiration:

  1. Lonely Planet guidebooks, website and newsletter. We still rely on the print and electronic editions of their guidebooks. There is something that a book in your hands. Flipping through pages and chapters gives you an overview of a destination that scrolling on your screen cannot replicate. We dip into guidebooks when deciding whether to develop an Independent Rowing Experience or a guided trip. And when planning our own add-on travel before or after a rowing trip. We trust their hotel and restaurant recommendations and enjoy their ideas for activities and top sights to see. The website has a wealth of information too, although not in the same comprehensive coverage of the books. We eagerly scan their annual lists of best places to travel, thrilled when we see one of our destinations.
  2. Afar magazine and newsletter Ruth buys a copy of the print magazine at airports, enjoying their in depth articles and beautiful photography. Their online presence is stellar too, and we have used recommendations to find restaurants or activities. And of course more ideas about where to travel next.
  3. Row360 magazine and website. Similarly filled with in-depth articles and especially stunning photography, this British based magazine covers global rowing. Our only complaint is that it focusses primarily on elite rowing, which is interesting of course, but we know that there is so much more to rowing.
  4. NK Sports blog. We are biased. Ruth writes these posts! The topics are wide ranging including profiles, top resources and explorations of issues.
